So here are pics from our chub bum. This was one of the best fishing of this season. A little bit pitty that the weather was cold and windy, but we still caught some fish. What is more, we thought we will see mayflies everywhere, but they had already hatched week before during those hot and humid days. All in all, this was great fishing session and we saw lots of interesting stuff.
Bub has risen
DAY ONE
Justas caught huge chub.. About 44 cm.. Caught, pictured and released.
Then it was my turn. Ide has eaten my bug!
It could have been better if not these carnivores, who ate all mayflies!!!
DAY TWO
The morning was such a swiz as the weather has turned upside down and it was a little chance to see any fish rising. So we didn’t hurry anywhere. Did some house work and had a great meal.
And then it was the first time I saw Justas such happy. This was monster chub. Look at his dark colors! Amazing!
And then me in action. Smaller one but I am happy as a hell!!
So this was our short trip to chubbyland. Hope we will not have to wait getting there again whole year.. See ya, folks.
Heavy metal is always and everywhere with us. This weekend we visited Ausktaitija again for chub fishing. Unfortunately water level is still too high and fish does not rise. We managed to catch few of them, but it is not that buggy time, wen you can catch a lot of huge chubs on a bug. However, it was very exciting fishing and we are looking forward to returnig there in a few weeks time. By the way, we did some farm work wile singing this song. Enjoy!
TRACTOOOOOR!!!
Cows go moo and they poo!!!
If he could talk he would say “What?! What would you do if you were bound to a cow house all the time and didn’t have a girlfriend?!”
This river was a virgin in fly fishing. It is not now.
There is a legend among deaddrifters that there is a fly that catch rising roe bucks. And the only man who knows it’s recepy is Justas. But this is not enough. You must be quiet as morning dew, indistinguishable as offset of grass and cruel as hungry wolf. Look at these pics and you’ll know who the master of dead roe fly drift is.
We can’t live without music. So here is a tune from Metallica in honor of master Justas.
Wile some deaddrifters were in Poland trying to filtrate all polish potato vodka supplies through their liver cells, we went to a very small village in Ausktaitija for chubby fishing. The weather was totally cats and dogs, but we still managed to catch few heavy chubs. As it is too early to use fly rod in those waters, we did lager fishing. It is not as enjoyable as flyfishing, but you won’t catch anything if you have no skills. This is the way our grandfathers and fathers fished. And this is the way we all started our long journey of fishing. And the main thing is not the technique you use to catch fish, it’s the the feeling and attitude to what you do :) Homo locus ornat, non locus hominem. Don’t forget to return to your roots!!!
We hope to get to the river as soon as possible and catch even bigger chubs than these fellas. But using bugs this time! See ya in the ministry of silly walks :D
P. S. I’m the fat one and Justas is the slim one :D
Today during the lunch break I took the rod, reel, couple streamers, camera and went straight trough old town of Vilnius to beautiful Vilnele stream. 15 min. walk and I was swinging this little fella – http://www.stonedfly.com/?p=187 – across the stream. Second cast, SHAZAM!!! BOOOM, couple jumps, photo photo, and one more photo, so long, and thanks for all the fish! back to work :)
and perfect tune for this day – theme song from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Thanks to Vilnius University every spring we can enjoy a week of holidays just before Easter. So we take most of it and try to seek out the trout of our dreams. We fish in wild Lithuanian rivers, try some new streamer patterns and learn new techniques of fishing them. Sometimes it’s very hard to find trout as they are not very active in early spring. But we never lose inspiration and do the best we can. Good company, first spring signs, some outdoors kitchen goodies, cold bear and redemptive trout is what we wait for every year. Cheers!
Here are pictures from spring trout fishing in 2008. Sorry for spinning rods but some of us were just starting to explore flyfishing world.
Hi folks! Here are some pics from my last fishing trip. Yeah, the best fishing of the new season. Managed to catch three trout: 41 cm, 30 cm and 37 cm. Enjoy!
